Lunar Helium-3 as an Energy Source?

The Chinese are heading for the Moon in 2017. They will be looking for Helium-3 which is an energy source that can be used in nuclear fusion. The Chinese think that this rare material can be found in abundance on the Moon.

Actually, they did find Helium-3 on the moon during the Apollo program, which is the official reason why the Chinese want to go back. But, as I've pointed out in an earlier post on my blog, Helium-3 can be mass-produced on Earth.

Strange, I wonder what the unofficial reason could be...
